Recycling Information
"One Bin, Same Day"

What is Single Stream Recycling?
Single Stream Recycling means that all mixed recyclables including, plastic, paper, metal and glass will be collected from the same container on the same day.

When will Single Stream Recycling start?
In Morrell Park, Single Stream Recycling started on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.

Morrell Park
Recycling Days

2nd & 4th Tuesday
of the Month

When will my recycling be picked up?
Your single stream recycling will be collected on your current paper recycling day. In Morrell Park, this is the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Will there still be blue bag Mondays?
After Single Stream Recycling starts, there will be no blue bag Mondays. In fact, plastic bags of any color will no longer be accepted. They may be recycled at your local grocery.

Why are plastic bags no longer acceptable?
Single stream recycling material is sent to a Single Stream Processing Facility which uses an automated system to sort and bale the recyclables. Plastic bags jam the automated machinery.  Ask for paper bags during shopping or use cloth/mesh reusable bags.

Do I have to use the new recycling bins?
No. You do not have to use the new bins in order to recycle.

What else can I use?
You may use paper bags, paper bound and tied with string, cardboard boxes, or any container as long as it is marked “RECYCLE.”

What are plastic bottles and jars with the recycling symbols 1 through 7?
Instead of plastic bottles with a 1 and a 2 in a triangle on the bottom (usually water, juice and soda bottles), you can now recycle narrow neck/screw top plastic bottles like detergent, bleach and cleaning bottles.

What about the sale of yellow recycling bins?
Both 18 gallon and 25 gallon yellow recycling bins are now available at Baltimore City's Kane Street Yard (111 Kane Street, across from  Patterson High School).

Bins can be purchased between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.   18 gallon bins are $5.00. 25 gallon bins are $12.00. Acceptable Payment – Cash, Money Order or Check (addressed to City of      Baltimore Director of Finance).

Please remember that yellow recycling bins are for recycling only! Regular trash and debris will not be picked up from recycling bins.

The promotional yellow bins are NOT REQUIRED to recycle – a citizen can use any bin of his/her choice as long as it is clearly marked “recycle,” citizens can also use cardboard boxes and/or paper bags.

We do not have lids available for the 25 gal. containers, but lids can be purchased separately at many hardware stores.

We are exploring a future purchase of lids that will be sold separately for those who wish to have covered recycling bins.

Recycling is different from household garbage (it is generally clean paper, bottles and cans) – a lidded can is not required under this or our past recycling program.
